Best practices in migrant attention  — Illustrations

Migrants face many challenges before and after completing their journey. These illustrations were created to guide volunteers and institutions to adopt the best practices in welcoming these people and helping them navigate through the difficulties of their realities.

One of the key parts of this project was to sketch out different concepts and choose the right ones for the ideas we wanted to illustrate.

Below, there are some sketches that drew the initial concepts and their development until they reached the final result. Some of them were considered and some were discarded, but all of them contributed to build the core of this initiative: to illustrate the realities many people face when taking this jouney to a better life.

The illustration style and color palette that were chosen intend to convey an optimistic view of this process. The aim was  to display the contrast between said difficulties and the possibility of a positive and collaborative view of the solutions.

After deciding what the final concepts were going to be, the sketches were taken to a cleaner approach, and we begin to see the outlines that will shape the final illustrations. The next step was to apply the color palette to each image and finally, the gradients helped to achieve a blend in the characters, which often reflect each other’s light.
