Dance More Dances — Illustration and Screen printing
Dance more dances invites to take action and experiment, as it was done to create this illustration, using screen printing to translate the character to sticker paper and discover the potential of this technique.
From the illustration to the final printed result, each step was taken with precision to achieve an outcome of a 10 piece print run.
The first step was to create the illustration digitally, which was then tranferred to parchment paper freehand with a permanent marker. Once we had the color separation ready, they were used to create the silkscreen needed to print the design with four different inks: Orange, Green, Yellow and Black. Since the size of the illustration was pretty small, we only used one screen, covering the parts we don’t want to print in each run.
Once the screen was covered with the emulsion we positioned the four color separations and exposed the screen to an intense light source, which sets the emulsion on the mesh, excluding the parts where our design had a fill. We let the screen dry in the sun, and when it was ready it was time to print.
To ensure the design was perfectly aligned, a few cross marks were included in the design, but then covered when inking, to avoid them from showing up in the end illustration.
The result of this process was a screenprinted print run of 10 sticker paper illlustrations.
Aditionally, we created a poster design and animation based on the illustration, that invites to experiment and take risks in design and life, embracing imperfection just as screen printing and other manual printing methods do.
